Bestminton Open 1st has officially wrapped up, and we’ve got tons of interesting stories to share from the tournament!
In the Mixed Doubles event, Group C was dubbed the “group of death” — and it totally lived up to the hype. It was also the group that ended up producing the champion.
The last match of Group C was between Le Hoang – Ngoc Anh and Ngoc Anh – Thu Hien. Before this match:
- Le Hoang – Ngoc Anh had 2 wins
- Ngoc Anh – Thu Hien had 1 win, 1 loss
- Thu Trang – Hai Dang had completed all their group matches with 2 wins and 1 loss (their only loss was to Le Hoang – Ngoc Anh)

That meant if Le Hoang – Ngoc Anh won, the two teams advancing would be Le Hoang – Ngoc Anh and Thu Trang – Hai Dang.
But things took a twist. Ngoc Anh – Thu Hien won the final match, which left all three teams with the same record: 2 wins and 1 loss (6 points each).
So it came down to point difference. As shown in the image, both Le Hoang – Ngoc Anh and Thu Trang – Hai Dang had a +5 point difference. But Le Hoang – Ngoc Anh moved on because they won the head-to-head matchup against Thu Trang – Hai Dang.
Here’s the wild part: if Ngoc Anh – Thu Hien had just scored 1 more point in that last match, Le Hoang – Ngoc Anh would’ve been eliminated — and the championship outcome could’ve been completely different.
Definitely one of the most exciting and dramatic groups of Bestminton Open 1st Edition!
